One of the important advantages of implementing the ESS in Debrecen is that, based on lower Price Level Indeces, 250 M€ will be saved during construction with identical technical contents compared to the other site candidates. Costs of local services and costs of living will remain below Western European levels for the first decades of operation.

ESS in Hungary will be a pan-European project, engaging best international experts and fully supported by a large financial contribution of the Hungarian government in the framework of an innovative financing model. The preparation of the project is fostered by the nomination of a special ESS commissioner of the Prime Minister.

The project is supported by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Hungarian expert community is fully engaged to prepare the broad international collaboration in support of a timely jump start of project realization.

In the course of preparing the project “Hungary for ESS”, a special emphasis was laid on the elaboration of the legal environment and the development of the organizational background based on the constant cooperation of the scientific, technical, legal, financial, economic experts and the political decision-makers.
